Why do we never use foam?

Foam is cheap to produce and easy to market, but once you understand what’s in it and how it behaves over time, it’s hard to justify sleeping on it every night.

It's made from unnatural materials

The main ingredient in memory foam, polyurethane foam, is a petroleum byproduct. This is combined with viscoelastics to enhance density and flame retardants like boric acid or antimony. These aren’t just harmful to humans, but the environment as well.

It holds heat

The dense material traps body heat, making it uncomfortable for hot sleepers. This trapped heat makes the foam break down more quickly.

It isn't responsive

The slow-moving foam can make it difficult to move or change positions, creating a “stuck” feeling.

It's less healthy
